The Ultimate eBook Experiment: Reading in the Bathtub

In an April 17 posting on his blog PRINT IS DEAD, Jeff Gomez reflected on a comment Margaret Atwood made at the 2007 London Book Fair that summed up what the famous author believed to be the major pitfall of digital books: unlike "regular books," she argued, ebooks cannot be read in the bathtub. Ms. Atwood is not alone in this line of thinking: in fact, similar comments have been posted right here on Gather about the Sony Reader, particularly in regards to how it simply cannot measure up to good-old-fashioned paper books.

Well, dear readers, I have endeavored to put this "theory" to rest by pitting my new Sony Reader against a copy of Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49 in the environment Ms. Atwood so boldly claims is the true domain of paper -- NOT digital -- books....
